To propose, encourage and facilitate activities of the IMU or other bodies which would tend to increase the visibility of women in mathematics and lead to an increase in their representation in the community at all levels and in all parts of the world.
To promote international contacts between national and regional organisations for women in mathematics, in particular facilitating the building of networks at the regional or continental level.
To provide a website which is a repository of information for and about women in mathematics worldwide and to enable efficient communication among the international community of women mathematicians.

CWM is organising a satellite meeting of ICM 2018: (WM)²: World Meeting for Women in Mathematics to take place in the same venue as the IMC in Rio on 31 July 2018 immediately before ICM2018.
CWM is leading the project "A Global Approach to the Gender Gap in Mathematical and Natural Sciences: How to Measure It, How to Reduce It ?" funded by the International Council for Science (ICSU). The award is of 300,000 Euros for the period 2017-2019. CWM was one of the two lead applicants.

CWM is very deeply saddened by the untimely death of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first female Fields medallist and an inspiration to us all. Her beautiful mathematics will stand as a memorial long after those of us who have had the privilege of knowing her personally are gone. CWM cooperates with the Organisation for Women in Science in the Developing World (OWSD). Founded in 1987, OWSD is the first international forum to unite eminent women scientists from the developing and developed worlds to promote their representation in scientific and technological leadership. OWSD offers generous awards to scientists throughout the developing world at different stages in their careers as well as providing research training, career development and networking opportunities. The Call for Applications for the 2018 OWSD PhD Fellowships for women scientists in the developing world is now open with a deadline of June 1, 2018.
